With its geographical position, the “infinitely natural” Drôme has diversified landscapes and outstanding environmental qualities.
Protected landscapes such as the “Parc Naturel Régional du Vercors” (Natural Park), several Nature Reserves, but also the approach of environment enhancement (eg. Forêt de Saou) and “agro-ecological” education (eg. Les Amanins), make of this region a perfect place to develop environment-friendly policies.
This is the reason why Drôme is France’s leading region in the organic production. (In France, organic products are nicknamed “Bio”, standing for “Biological”). This leading position is based on the number of organic producers in the region and the area of cultivation. Therefore, Drôme offers a wide range of animal and plant products coming from the organic agriculture. As an example, Drôme’s aromatic and medicinal plants (PPAM) head the bill with 35% of the national production and 90% of the regional production.
This situation is due to all the women and men who once believed in this form of production and have developed it over the years. If Drôme is number one in France for organic agriculture, it is also true that all its farmers respect the earth, without necessarily being organic producers.
“L’agriculture raisonnée” (“Thoughtful Agriculture”) is a real philosophy here and contributes to the equilibrium we have today and (hopefully) will have tomorrow.
We invite you to discover Organic agriculture, “Thoughtful” agriculture and sustainable development throughout this website. You will find out everything you need to know about Drôme’s producers and ideas of environment-friendly stays and holidays…
